Marije van Rijn is a Rotterdam based pianist, singer and songwriter.
With her first band Scarlet Mae she released two records. Both were received well and she got to tour for several years in the Netherlands and abroad.
Marije started writing songs during her classical piano studies at the conservatory of Rotterdam. After the release of the first EP, her music got picked up by the radio and she played stages such as Paradiso, Eurosonic/Noorderslag, North Sea Jazz Round Town and Appelpop.
For her band’s self-titled full-length debut album she collaborated a.o. with guitarist and producer Paul Willemsen. The album was well received: “Joyful, inventive and extremely musical” (Oor Magazine), “After listening for dozens of times, still not done with it […] promising Dutch talent” (Heaven Magazine).
She toured around the UK, playing a.o. at the showcase festival “The Great Escape”. In the Netherlands she played many (jazz)festivals, theaters and concerthalls like “De Doelen” in Rotterdam.
Marije is currently working on a new solo project.
